Kissos Village AccommodationShould you want to stay on a day or two after your workshop finishes, or arrive a day or two before it starts we may not be able to accommodate you at the Centre as a short term guest: €37.50/day includes meals and accommodation. Fortunately, there are pleasant local alternatives for all budgets. Please Google "Kissos village" Pelion. "Domatia" (Rooms) in Kissos. The standard price is set by the tourist police, but you can often negotiate a lower price, especially in June or September. Most of the guest houses are on the Kissos paved road, not far from the Village Square (Platia), 5 to 8 min walk from Kalikalos Centre. Most all will have en suite shower/toilet, and are double rooms priced officially at €40 and up.Car HireIf you are coming with friend(s) or family, consider renting a car at the arrival airport. EasyJet have a car hire subsidiary, as does British Air. The best deals recently were at www.121carhire.com. A small car rented for 7 days cost about €200. Divided by 3 or 4 people this might work out to be affordable and give you the opportunity of making independent excursions once you are here.Camping in Chorefto or Ag. IoannisIf you have tent and sleeping bag, there is a full service camping site with chalets to rent at the Papa Nero beach in Ag Ioannis, tel. (+30) 24260 31319, €6/night with small tent. The far north end of Chorefto beach is naturist and you can pitch your own tent there except in August when the tourist police make the occasional symbolic clearout, obliging everyone to pack up and leave for a day or two.Arriving in ThessalonikiA local bus from the airport departs every 30 minutes to the main intercity Thessaloniki coach station (50 min). If you are pressed for time to catch your Thessaloniki-->Volos bus, take a taxi (€20). (The train from Thessaloniki is not recommended because the journey is over twice as long as the bus.) Note that the 15:15 is the latest bus allowing you to get our Friday afternoon Volos pickup.

Arriving in AthensFrom Athens airport, take Bus X95 or the metro to Syntagma square or Omonia Square where there are many budget hotels. If you are wanting to get to Kalikalos as soon as possible on arrival at the airport, take Bus X93 direct to Liossion Bus Station (journey 45 min) where you can get a bus to Volos. There are frequent buses all day to Volos, as shown below. The 13:30 (1:30 pm) bus arriving in Volos at 18:00 (6 pm) is the last possible one allowing you to get our €10 euro Friday pre-booked pickup.Athens --> Volos 07:00, 08:00, 09:00, 10:30, 12:00, 13:30, 15:00, 16:00 (Fri only)

Intercity trains between Athens and Thessaloniki depart every few hours from the Larissa station (3 metro stops from Syntagma Square) and stop at Larissa City, where there is a connecting local service to Volos. It's a pleasant relaxing journey 5 ½ hr through some spectacular moutainous landscape. The last train allowing you to get the pre-booked Friday Kalikalos €10 pickup is the 12:19.

Backpackers.gr is an Aussie-run upmarket hostel that, aside from €15 dorms, and €25 singles, also has 3 person apartments for €80 euros. Metro: Akropoli. Higher standard (€80 upwards) hotels
Arriving in VolosIf you are spending the night in Volos, you can catch the local Volos to Kissos bus (€6.50) at 13:30 (1:30 pm). If you are coming from Athens or Thessaloniki by bus, you must leave Athens by 8 am and Thessaloniki by 10 am in time to catch this local bus which takes the scenic route around the peninsula before arriving at Kissos 2½ hours later. If you prefer to take a €50 taxi (about 55 min) we suggest Volos Radio Taxis (Tel: 24210-27777) which are obliged to use their meter. Budget Hotels (€25-35) in Volos
Kalikalos pickups: Volos airport, bus & train stationsWe make pickups on Friday pm from Volos airport (€20), bus station, port and railway station (all €10). You must ring us (+30) 24260 31346/31151 or 697 550 2736 48 hr in advance to verify and book the pickup. If our pickup is full we can assist you in coordinating a taxi with other arriving guests. Taxi to Kissos is about €50. Drivers may ask more, so be firm and insist. If necessary, phone Volos Radio Taxis (24210 27777). Tell taxi drivers to take you to the Kissos Platia (the village square). Kalikalos is 40 m straight on from there. Please arrive to Kalikalos during daylight hours=before 20:30 (8:30 pm) as our staff volunteers finish their work at dinner time and there is therefore no one available to receive you after 20:30 hr. | ||||||||||
