2012 Living-in-Community Guest ProgrammeAll weeks start on Friday at 18:30 hr (6:30 pm) and end the following Friday at 11:30 hr. Please arrange your flights accordingly. We’ll be constructing chestnut wood decking for our yurts this May. As well, there are many maintenance jobs including traditional Mediterranean dry walling and stone paving. We have yurts to erect, tents to be sewn, the vegetable garden to be dug and planted and rooms to spruce up. Or, join the workcamp support team that will do housecleaning, minor maintenance and cook the vegetarian meals. Our camps are not all about work—we get to the beach every afternoon! Sign up for 2, 3 or 4 weeks. Throughout the Summer Season, June — SeptemberThe Centre provides accomodation for up to a half dozen living-in-community guests most weeks. The price of €250 includes meals and shared accommodation, typically a shared triple/quad room or yurt/tent. If you require a single room, there is a €150/week supplement. A €75/week supplement guarantees you a twin room. Our four leaders have been educators in a variety of settings for over 15 years and have eight children between them. Kalikalos family experience weeks include circle group sessions, meditation, song, dance, painting, story telling, walks, puppetry, script writing and culminate in a cabaret performance. Each year's group is different and the activities are based on the group preferences. Families, couples and singles all welcome! £550/€600 ![]() This week Living-in-community guests have the opportunity to attend singing and dance sessions with traveling artist troubadour Barbara Swetina. With her wide repertoire of songs and dances collected from all over the world and her flute and accordion Barbara will lead us in creating sacred spaces with music and dance. Autumn WorkcampThe last week of September and the first week of October, with the weather crisp and clear, and the sea at its warmest, we finish any building left from the May work camp, pack up and store our temporary structures, mulch the gardens and close up the Centre. It's a time for community building, sharing and going inward with a gentle work rhythm as the season comes to an end. The beaches are still warm until 16:00 hr (4:00 pm) and we have them completely to ourselves. In the waning days of summer it's a magical time to be in Greece! Facilitators in ResidenceFIRs are available most weeks offering very modestly priced (€25-40) ad hoc sessions in a variety of healing arts, 1-1 treatments, as well as early morning yoga, tai chi or Qigong to Community Guests. Click to see the current list of 2012 FIRs. Staff AdjunctsStaff adjuncts are Living-in-Community guests who want to be more involved in the Centre’s daily work, so they join us as part time (15 hr/week) staffers. If there are vacancies, the cost is €150/week. Contact us if you are interested in this way to be with us in Kalikalos. Prior experience here is usually a prerequisite. |
Living-in-Community Guests (LCG): The Affordable Alternative Holiday at €250/week
Kalikalos is much more than a workshop centre. We are an international holistic education centre offering the opportunity of a beach holiday in the sun with a difference. As a living-in-community guest you mingle with us, sharing in our attunements, helping us once a week to cook our Greek vegetarian meals, swimming in the crystal clear Aegean sea, hiking the superb mountain trails, and above all making new friends who share your holistic perspective.
Living-in-Community (LCG) non-workshop participating guests are very welcome here. The rate for full board is €250 per week. Children under 12 are half price. These low prices make the Kalikalos project an affordable alternative holiday for those who wish to experience this magnificent area staying in holistic community but are not particularly drawn to attending a workshop on their vacation.
Click the credit card icon to book with Paypal or a credit card. If you prefer to pay with cheque or bank transfer please and we will provide the details of our banks in Greece, Germany, Britain, Ireland and the USA.
Each week throughout the summer we have one or two Facilitators in Residence (FIRs) present who offer a variety of holistic arts and disciplines to Community guests. Yoga, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Painting and drawing, Voice work, meditation instruction and the Game of Transformation are popular offerings. Cost of ad hoc sessions range from € 25-40. Most of them also offer private 1-1 sessions at modest prices. You'll find the 2012 list of FIRs on the Facilitators in Residence page.
LCG guests are full community members and therefore join in the essential cooking, clean-up and garden rotas that keep the centre functioning. So your help is very much appreciated for joining one 2½ hour cooking shift in the week, a couple of 35 min. after-dinner washing-up shifts, and a 1½ hr gardening shift—about 7 hours of community service (aka karma yoga) in all. Actually it is the working together joyfully here in the kitchen, the gardens and homecare that is one of the most powerful community building tools we can offer you.
We ask our community guests to attend Saturday morning community meetings, where new guests, workshop leaders and participants introduce themselves. LCG's are always welcome to join any non-workshop group activities, such as Qi Gong, Yoga and Tai Chi which occur regularly as well as our daily morning sharing (talking stick) circle. Our Living-in-Community guests themselves often offer their own skills and healing sessions on an ad hoc basic. Apart from scheduled group or staff meditations the universal sanctuary is open 24 hours a day for quiet contemplation.
The Centre provides one free daily (Fridays excepted) transport in the Centre vehicles to and from local beaches, which are about 15 min away by car, or about an hour by foot down the mountain by picturesque donkey paths. Beach transport is normally coordinated to the ongoing workshop schedule. As LCG guests are not tied to the workshop schedule, those who are fairly fit often elect to walk to the beach (steep in places so hiking shoes or trainers recommended) at times of their own choice, and then return to the Centre later in the day on one of our pickup runs for workshops participants (typically 5:45 pm) or the local bus from Ag. Ioannis.
