7 — 20 July with Henk Barendregt and Yowon Choi €250/week

The Practice of Mindfulness
The practice of Vipassana is aimed at developing a kind attention on whatever comes to us in life. The retreat can be attended for one or two weeks. Children are welcome.
The training mainly consists of walking, sitting, and some work meditation (the latter mainly preparing food and some other help in the center; parents are taking turns taking care of children).
During the afternoon there is occasion to go to the beach to practise mindfulness while interacting with others.
During all times all participants are requested to keep the five rules of behaviour for this retreat:
-
Using respectful language (speaking truth and avoiding gossip)
-
Respecting other person's property
-
Respecting life
-
Keeping a friendly a-sexual attitude (in speech, dressing and behaviour)
-
Refraining from using drugs* (including alcohol and tabacco)
*coffee is allowed and necessary medicines as well.
In the morning up to halfway through lunch we will be practicing noble silence. In the afternoon we shall practise mindful speech, and during our work we practise mindful action.
Outside of group practice time, participants may remain in the center and continue formal meditation or read about the practice of Buddhist meditation.
Instructions, personal interviews, and a dhamma-talk will be given daily. The language used is English, although participants can ask questions in Dutch, Italian, German, French, and Korean.
Our very affordable (€250) Living-in-Community program invites you to stay on a week before or after your retreat to relax and fully enjoy this special unspoiled region of Greece. Book now!

About the Practice
By developing mindfulness, attention without judgement on what is happening to us in the present moment, we can obtain insight in the way we are conditioned and become more free from our conditioning.
The final goal is to obtain threefold peace: with oneself, others and the world. Systematic development of mindfulness on the input of our physical senses, on feelings, on mind, and on output (our thinking, speech and actions) will gradually transform our personality in the direction of equanimity, opening up the possibility of kindness, compassion, and shared joy. This mental development is facilitated by mindful breathing and walking as main exercises of meditation.
The present Vipassana retreat is particularly useful for those who wish to integrate a meditative mind together with daily life activities. Formal meditation, daily activities, and community building are equally emphasized.
Participants agree to have the intention to follow as much as possible the guidelines of the retreat with the understanding that no one is obliged to do exercises that they do not wish to do. One acknowledges that in no way the teacher can be held responsible for his/her personal development. The teachers will do their best to support the participants to develop mindfulness in favor of their development.
On the last day of the retreat, special attention will be given how to come back to one's daily situation, in particular how to share your experiences with close friends and partners.
At the end of the retreat there is opportunity to practise dana (generosity) towards the teachers and center.
Note: If you are under supervision or treatment from a psychiatrist, or taking psychoactive medicine, you are requested to ask permission of your therapist and discuss with one of the teachers (via skype or telephone) prior to booking the retreat whether participation at the moment is suitable.

Kalikalos is run by and as a full community comprising the unpaid volunteer staffers and our guests. So, as a workshop participant you'll join the cooking team once in the week, and help occasionally with clean up, gardening or admin. The work is not onerous, about 6-7 hr of "Karma Yoga" in the week. This makes our programmes more affordable and helps us build community together.
