Vicky Vergou was born in Greece in 1964. In Athens she studied Fine Arts, Film Studies and Graphic Design at Vacalo School of Design. In 2000 she moved to England and did an MA in Contemporary Arts and Music. She has been working as an installation artist using a range of media including video, sound, drawing and painting in her work. Her practice refers to the issues of mortality and immigration. She works as an art teacher and designs art workshops for art groups, small communities, people living with long term illnesses, people with mental health issues, drug projects and the homeless. In these activities she uses a large variety of media including drawing, painting, mixed media, sound and installations. The workshops are focused on specific ideas and topics related to the group identity and interest.
For the Anilio project Vicky wants to work on the idea of “5 senses & 5 elements”, in which people will explore how they can be in touch with their surroundings. Participants will experiment with a variety of drawing techniques using natural materials. Each day there will be a different activity and the last 2 days will be an overview using the technique of egg temper (pigments and egg glue). day 1 - earth - smell - drawing with soil
day 2 - water - taste - waterbased drawing
day 3 - fire - vision - drawing with coal
day 4 - air - touch - blowing colours
day 5 - ether - hearing - focus on sound
day 6 - a "special" dinnerThere is no need to worry about having a natural ability to draw (or paint), the important thing is to enjoy the experience just as children do.
