Elemental MovementsThis week of Elemental Movements is for anyone who wants to explore the possibilities of being fully alive, awake and aware in their bodies through dancing, creating ceremony and ritual in the company of others. The focus of our workshop sessions will be our bodies. Their physicality, their connection with our hearts, minds & spirits, each other and the wider world. We’ll be building on our experience of Kalikalos last year to continue making physical reflections and connections with the landscape and natural world in this particular part of Greece at this turning point of the year, the Summer Solstice. Every day we’ll connect with our bodies and each other through a variety of practices including:
The practice has its roots in a series of workshops we've run in Northumberland, England linked to the Celtic seasonal festivals of Samhain, Imbolc, Beltain and Lughnasadh. Their work together is evolving and growing as they run more sessions and work with a range of individuals and groups in the UK and Europe. ELEMENTAL MOVEMENTS is grounded in and inspired by our many years experience of 5 Rhythms Movement Practice, Dance & Physical Theatre Performance and Core Shamanism. In 2013 we will be taking our work to Greece, Ireland, Spain and Italy as well as continuing to explore the connections between the ELEMENTAL MOVEMENTS practice and the landscape and culture of Northumberland in northeast England. For more information about ELEMENTAL MOVEMENTS please visit the leaders' websites and their Facebook page. |
About Gordon SharpI passionately believe that to change ourselves, our relationships with each other and the natural world, we must start from our perception of and interaction with our own bodies.
Since 1972 I’ve worked as a performance director, performer, musician and community artist running and developing a number of UK based performance and workshop companies including Skin and Bones, Puppets & People and Heart Performance. I’ve lectured in performing arts at Newcastle, North Tyneside and Durham Colleges of Further Education and Northumbria University and taught Yoga and Tai Chi in Adult Education and for Her Majesty’s Prison Service. I’ve also worked as a freelance creative practitioner developing, producing and coordinating a wide variety of performance and arts projects in schools, community centres and festivals with many children, young people and adults of all ages. For over 20 years I have been actively involved in developing and participating in the 5 Rhythms Movement Practice of Gabrielle Roth. I am part of the “Live Rhythms” group of musicians and dancers in Northeast England exploring the connections between live music and 5 Rhythms Movement Practice. I play a number of musical instruments including sitar, saxophones, djembe and hand percussion. I am a visual artist creating digital and hand drawn mandalas for over 40 years. My work can be seen at www.naturemandala.com.

About Lynn CampbellMy practice and my work as a Movement Medicine Teacher is deeply part of who I am. I’ve now taught and worked in this field for many years:![]() I worked for over ten years as a primary school teacher, teacher for children with special needs and as a special needs advisory teacher—movement play was always part of my passion. I gave up teaching in 1998 to study on the MA programme at The Laban Centre and to develop my work as a Dance Movement Psychotherapist and as a freelance dance artist. In 2000 I co-founded the Bare Toed Dance Company which specialises in offering movement play and dance to young children and their parents/teachers/carers. I’ve also taught for the National Childbirth Trust and I’m an Active Birth Teacher offering movement for pregnancy sessions and Baby Play sessions with babies crawling and their mums. In 2006 I began studying with the School of Movement Medicine (an integration of physical, artistic, shamanic, devotional and therapeutic practice) and recently completed their apprenticeship and have began work as an apprentice teacher.
