An Introductory Bowen Therapy WorkshopDeveloped in Australia in the 1950's, and named after Mr Tom Bowen its originator, the Bowen technique is a gentle and relaxing hands-on therapy, in which the practitioner makes a series of 'moves' over the muscles and soft tissues of the patient, using only the fingers and thumbs. There is no need to remove light clothing, and a treatment lasts about 45 minutes. Continuous short breaks are given as part of the treatment to allow the body to ‘adjust to the messages’ received through the nervous system.Bowen creates a balance in the body by releasing ‘energy blockages’. It is particularly effective at relieving muskulo-skeletal pain, but may also help people with a wide range of conditions. Anyone can benefit from a Bowen treatment - from babies to sportspeople; and even those with degenerative conditions. Bowen therapy can help with: ![]()
A basic number of Bowen moves will be demonstrated and practiced, appropriate for emergency or acute situations. For example: asthma attack, stiff neck, bad knees, or carpal tunnel syndrome. In addition to discussing “mainstream” Bowen, I will introduce other styles such as NST, Neural Touch and the Emmett technique. This workshop is limited to 12 participants. It is helpful, but not necessary, for students to have some experience of bodywork. Participants are eligible to receive 5 CPD Workshop Credits with CThA (Complementary Therapy Association, UK) on completion of the workshop.
Your Facilitator, Tim Willcocks
Tim Willcocks has been “Bowening” for fourteen years and has been giving introductory Bowen workshops since 2003. Tim reports:Since 1996 I have treated nearly 2,000 people, and have kept careful records of well over 600 individuals. Fully 90% of these clients have reported a benefit from the treatments, and about 60% experienced a ‘good-to-excellent’ improvement. Furthermore, patients required an average of only three to four sessions.
I will be delighted to introduce you to this extraordinary technique that anyone can learn and apply to so many things with such great benefit.
