Tai Chi Qigong Retreat Workshop in Greece

Yang style Tai Chi Chuan (Taiji) and the complementary Qigong practice are designed to cultivate the subtle energy (Chi) that bridges and synchronises body and mind. In Tai Chi and Qi gong the mind is used to control the breath, which then automatically directs movement. Through this reciprocal process the mind gradually becomes the still witness of the movement and these practices become moving meditations.

Practising Qi gong and Tai Chi allows us to witness directly with our senses this active Chi process going on beyond the self, and to enter and bathe in the the infinite river of Chi, the creative process underlying life itself. When the mind becomes connected and absorbed into the meditation, it becomes still like a mirror. Chi is then in command and bridges intention and realisation.

Our being is ever vibrant, reflecting the ebb and flow of nature and creation itself. Tai Chi is the art of opening up, leaving the ego behind and experiencing in every single second the process of creation occurring within and outside ourselves.

Chen family Tai Chi Tai Chi in Greece The creative process is so deeply alive that we can also trace it through different modes of expression—e.g., through painting, film, photo, music—any medium whatsoever, in fact, that the driving creative force speaks through us. So please bring colours, paints, paper and brushes, a camera, and any supporting materials you feel are suitable for your artistic expression.

We will begin early in the morning with an hour of Chi Kong practice, and follow on later in the morning with two hours of the Yang Style Long Form of Tai Chi. We'll focus on our artistic development in the late afternoons.

Prior experience with Tai Chi is welcome, but not necessary as individual instruction is given to each participant. Anyone willing to open up to the Chi flow and discover the creative energy within will enjoy this week.

Yang Style Tai Chi Françoise Poutays graduated from the French Ecole des Beaux-arts in 1983 and has continued to be active in the contempory arts scene. She has exhibited her sculptures in Paris at the Institute de Beaux Arts. Some 25 years ago she commenced her study of Yang style taichi, and over the years has had the opportunity to follow and integrate the teaching of several different grand masters in taichi and Qigong: Master Chen, Wen Mei Yu and Bruce Kumar Frantzis in particular. Françoise has been teaching taichi for 15 years, focusing on the harmony between the outer form (stance, form, martial applications), and the inner core of taichi (meditation and return to emptiness). Since 2005 Françoise has been specialising in medical Qigong and acupuncture which she now integrates into her teaching.
